How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows offer a host of benefits for homeowners in Fall River, one being increased energy efficiency. Regardless if you’re researching online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great product if you’re wanting better efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that has a greater density than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you see that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, it’s likely that you have developed a larger leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are two things that you can do to check to see if this is the case:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re looking at is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you realize that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can contact the manufacturer to determine if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions causing the leak, it might make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is inhibited it can change your heating and cooling bills.
